NYFW Spring 2010: Karen Walker

The Karen Walker show was one of a couple I have been desperately anticipating, and she did not disappoint. Love the breton stripe tops (I've been growing more and more obsessed with these in the past few months) so I'll definitely be getting myself one of these - the drop shouldered one is particularly ace.
Walker knows how to do a killer navy piece - girl after my own heart (I'm a sucker for the ultimate nanna/orphan hue). And paired with gold buttons is even better. The a-line dress would be the ultimate easy-breezy summer item - and equally good with tights and boy-boots for winter. I'm 99% sure the look on the right is a romper, therefore it is 147% amazing. And being a liberty print fiend, I know I don't need to tell you how much I'm lusting after the blue floral waistcoat in the center.
And she's done the same print in a jacket. Also, I think I kindof love that acid trip of a print. I'm thinking it could be the type that looks good on the runway but actually blows your mind (highly appropriate) in the flesh.

Doilies and Pearls, Oysters and Shells

I fell madly and deeply in love with Romance Was Born's Summer 09/10 collection (perfectly titled) "Doilies and Pearls, Oysters and Shells" when it showed at RAFW - it was a total trip. Dreamy escapism and the ultimate fantasy. It seriously doesn't get any better than mermaid-nana-whore. I love.

Of course, knitted octopus hoodies are hard to do in real life. So when I popped into James Dobson's store Children of Vision a few months ago and he showed me the hot off the press lookbook I totally died - it was all heavenly, and actually (somewhat) wearable. Apparently it's due in store in September - I'll be in like a shot. But what to choose?!?!
Left to Right: Knit Wit Nighty, Esme Dress, Barnicle Boob Top w Decked Out Shorts

I love the delicacy of the white pieces - they look like shells that have been sunbleached from an eternity spent on the beach.
Left to Right: Rock Lobster Jacket w Rock Lobster Skirt & Lace Bodysuit, Clam Shell Smock Dress w Lace Leggings, Rock Lobster Dress

Is it wrong that I kindof want blue lace eyebrows? Probably. But I also desperately want pastel pink hair. I wonder what Mobeen at Stephen Marr would say? Parents would be aghast.
Left to Right: Barnicle Earrings w Mini Barnicle Necklace & Gossip Granny Headband, Nanna Floral Print silk scarf

The delicate lace details and intricate embellishments translate surprisingly as well into black as they do in the sugar spun hues.
Left to Right: Rock Lobster Jacket w Lace Bodysuit, Barnicle Boob Top w Gypsy Mermaid Pants, Clam Shell Dress

The swimwear is killer; both innocent and girly, and sexy/retro. I'm def going to score myself a pair of high waisted bikini briefs for summer. Tan will be interesting! Shall let you all know how I get on with that.
Left to Right: Mermaid Bikini and Clamshell Bikini

And I just had to post some of the fabrics - I am a total textile fiend. These are sumptuous and heavenly.

Boz

The Boz always kills it with her weekend style - relaxed, cute and totally attainable style wise. I love how she's wearing a Chanel 2.55 with a washed out sweatshirt and cutoffs. And I'd bet my first born that the romper on the far right is by Karen Walker - I have this bodysuit in the same heavenly floral fabric.

Lacey, Florally, Velvetty Goodness To See In The Big Two One

As I had been mentioning the bits and pieces I had picked up for my birthday outfit (and they general stress of me being an idiot and leaving it to the last minute) a few of you asked for an outfit post. I know I rarely do these, but I'm all shy and shit - but shall try harder. Anyway though, I was fully psyched by what I ended up piecing together - had wanted some intense shit as its my 21st so why not! And am so glad I used it as an excuse to get the bodysuit that I'd been coveting forever.

L'apres Midi

I'm a total sucker for a good floral - particularly the washed out, sun bleached variety. And a Chanel handbag. Of course.

Lula #10

So I finally set aside some time to scan some of the magazines I've read lately (the To Read pile is still massive though...) The latest Lula is stunning, always a delight to read - and something I always do v slowly. Boaters and pastel were a massive feature in the whole issue (lucky Brits with spring upon them).

And We All Shine On
Chanel Iman does pastels and nerdy/ladylike pieces without looking saccharine. The tones look amazing on her skintone. Unfortunately I would look like a total dick in these (blonde hair + head-to-toe pastels = barbie much?).

Lady Bird
This editorial (accompanying a v interesting interview with the crazy-talented Luella Bartley) so makes me think of my little sis - she is a total cupcake fiend. I love this collection from Luella - totally delicious. Cute, ladylike, iron and just a bit messed up.

Hold On To Your Hat
Im still obsessed with boaters (thanks Marc and Lover), unfortunately with our lovely schizophrenic Auckland winters they would be a v silly option. So I shall just admire beautiful shots like these and bide my time for spring.

This Side Of The Blue

Je T'aime
Love these washed out, sun-bleached florals. I adore anything Liberty-esque - I've been thoroughly (and gratefully) overexposed to their beautiful fabrics my whole life. Merci mama.

To Be Your Friend
And this is just too pretty. Every little girls dream. Love how they have paired the usually slick and futuristic Rodarte laser cut leather leggings with sequins and tulle - super fresh take on this fab piece.

Bow Wow Wow and A Dreamy Day Of Dreaming You

I love love love this Isabel Marant ad... Seriously coveting patchwork at the mo. Have a patchwork vest in my sewing pile - will def have to wait until mid semester break unfortunately.

RAFW: Karla Spetic, Beat Poet & Kirrily Johnston

Sorry I've been a bit behind posting, It's been a hectic last half of a week - ton of uni, and had to work. And had 5:20am wakeups (and four hours sleep so I could finish my design assignment). Its been hard to keep up with all the fantastic coverage coming out of Australia (thank god for the likes of Isaac, Patty Huntington and Melissa Hoyer) - don't even get me started on the tsunami of it on twitter!

KARLA SPETIC
I'm a total sucker for outfits in washed out pastels - so I love these tan and bright-baby-blue looks from Karla Spetic. Have also been pretty much obsessed with scalloped edges ever since the Spring 09 collections of Christopher Kane and Chloe.
Love the washed out semi-kitsch floral pieces too - those leggings are to die for.

BEAT POET
I love (and wear) menswear nearly as much as I do womens. Half the time I look like a boy anyway - much to my fathers chagrin. I just find that their tees and shirts fit me so much better than womens ones.

Understandably I pretty much died when I saw the Beat Poet collection - this is how all males should dress. A bit dark, a bit tailored.. And just enough badass grungyness. The skinny jeans look great paired with the tailored jackets coats and vests. How often do you see men in a white skinny jean and it actually looks good?
Love the vest over the sheer sleeves in the fourth look along. And that coat in the second is pretty much perfection.

KIRRILY JOHNSTON
Gorgeous palette at the Kirrily Johnston show - creams, whites and washed out oranges. V warm but soft. Love the contrast with the black pieces and the slicked back (and wrapped around necks) hair. Badass boots too!

Floral & Plaid

Love this. Very nineties, very cute - young, boyish, casual, grungy. Always love Selezneva's work. Glad I already have a floral shirt (aka steal it from Mama's closet regularly) and a slouchy grey sweatshirt! Easy.

13/04/09: Fashion Toast

Love this Erin Wasson X RVCA dress. Body con + floral = sick. Perfect for Runi Neely - was just a matter of time before she got her hands on one. God I wish I had a pair of those Emma Cook for Topshop boots also.

Wearing: Floral, Bleached Denim, Tan

Todays outfit makes me smile. Perfect for the beautiful sunny day! Feeling very feminine but not too girly and saccharine. The shirt is vintage Laura Ashley, cami and belt (and wedges) are Country Road, shorts (faves as you can tell) are vintage Levi's that I customized, and bike shorts are American Apparel.
Was channeling Iris from Taxi Driver, Luxe from The Virgin Suicides, and that gorgeous sheer floral worn by Cecilia in Atonement - merci Jodie, Kirsten and Kiera!
