Vogue Australia June 09

Wow this is an unbelievably delayed post. I only JUST got around to scanning the June issue of Australian Vogue - it's been sitting forlornly in my magazine pile for way to long. Anyway, I loved two of the editorials; quirky, fresh and a new spin on classic pieces. A nice change from what we usually find in the Aus issues.

"Paris Match"
Love the high waisted pleat pants combined with cropped shirt proportions. The perfect way to balance.
On the other end of the spectrum is the long blazers, short shorts and leather. Love the juxtaposition of the manly, refined blazers with leather and bare legs.

"Old Glory"
I'm not gonna lie, I'm a total Chanel fiend. I even love the blatantly logo-tastic nature it often has. Therefore I love the tongue-in-cheek label bashing irony of this editorial. It should all be too much but it's actually too good.

Igor + Andre

Danny Roberts' illustrations of fashion editorials, models and bloggers are killer. He turns what are often refined, aloof and unattainable images into pieces of work full of life, movement and beautiful imperfections.

18/08/09: Alexa

Sorry about the delay in posts - I have had supremely epic techno-karma! My deceptively angelic kitten/gremlin chewed through ANOTHER macbook charger so poor laptop has been dead as a doornail.

To improve the mood, here are some shots of Alexa looking great - as usual. This shows the worlds still in balance.

I am totally yearning for a stripey cardigan; nautical, preppy, frenchy etc. And the white dress is perfectly childlike, innocent and ladylike - yet somehow totally badass. Love the studded belt. Man I need to learn to wear dresses.
Left: in Alexander Wang, Chanel and Marni. Right: in Opening Ceremony

This is the best I have ever seen an all-buttoned-up shirt. Mostly because of the wider collar (making it look more relaxed) and the killer studs. It's Phillip Lim, and I want.

Boz

The Boz always kills it with her weekend style - relaxed, cute and totally attainable style wise. I love how she's wearing a Chanel 2.55 with a washed out sweatshirt and cutoffs. And I'd bet my first born that the romper on the far right is by Karen Walker - I have this bodysuit in the same heavenly floral fabric.

8/06/09: Alexa

I love quirky, statement jackets and jumpers. So understandably I adore these Alexa is wearing for Marie Claire. I particularly crave that jumper on the right (its Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony).

Alexa has also been continuing be sartorially awesome on her MTV show lately. The girls a big Lover fan - I love how she dressed down that super sexy dress. And the girls got me desperately wanting loafers. The search is on.

Great knitwear lately too - LOVE the Chanel cardie on the left, and and oversized v neck is so so classic. I live in them - c/o Mums wardrobe. Thanks Mama.

About A Girl

There's something alluringly fresh and relaxed about this editorial. The models wears the clothes (rather than vice versa); the damp looking, brushed back hair looks charmingly low key and boyish; and the golden afternoon light is just beautiful and natural.

I love the oversized cream blazer that both complements and juxtaposes the elegant pleated skirt - which is very much making me think of the Juliette Hogan one I put on layby on the weekend. And hello Chanel high tops.
These two shots are my absolute favorites. Maybe I'm just buzzing from Coco Avant Chanel - which I saw on the weekend - and these remind me of her. The big mans coat and the black bowler.
Also loving the lush greenery of these.
And that coat really is too perfect. A big, oversized, masculine camel coat so iconic and timeless.

Karl Loves Brian Too

Brian Jones is one of my favorite male muses (along with all the other Stones - they're my boys!). He's the sole cause of my inexplicable desire to possess an american flag shirt. I also love his iconic mop of blonde hair - and crushed all over the incarnation of it that Karl put his girls in for Chanel's Resort 09 show. Makes me want to get a fringe cut into my new crop.

5018

I still think Chanel's Half Tint 5018 sunglasses from Spring 07 are one of my favorite pairs of all time. They pretty much stop you in your tracks. Bold, graphic and modern they are also chic and classic.

And they also happened to be worn repeatedly by two of my favorite girls - Mary Kate and Nicole. Also featuring in the ever inspiring video from The Row.

Ladylike

Im loving ladylike little girl shoes - they have endearing qualities of naivety, innocence and class. And manage to be delicate yet practical.

They would go perfectly with the Floor Skirt by Juliette Hogan that I have been coveting insanely since seeing it at Showroom 22's Media Open Day. I NEED this skirt.

Soleils De Nuit

Love the indifference, nonchalance and glamour of these - lounging around on expensive sheets in jewels and with Chanel No.5 underfoot.

Toute Allure

I'm a total sucker for the combo of denim, white tees, jacket and a will's worth of jewelry. So classic. And that juxtaposition of casual and luxe never fails. Add a Chanel 2.55 and a coke can and I'm all yours.

ADN de la Mode

The stunning August issue of French Vogue (shot entirely by Inez and Vinoodh) has a deliciously long editorially showcasing the key fall looks from all the major designers - and they've used all the top girls and there still is a real sense of continuity.

Signes Particuliers

As soon as the mercury rises - I am so doing this look. classic white tee or tank underneath my leather bra from Lonely Hearts, every necklace and bracelet I own as well as some of Mama's pearls. And this editorial has only intensified my burning desire for a blatant logo tee in black and white (ideally Chanel or YSL). Sigh.

Extra Klasse

I always look forward to seeing what stylists and fashion editors do with the new seasons pieces - and Vogue Germany have taken a fun, lighthearted approach (refreshing with regards to fall). Particularly loving the fresh look at Balmain and Chanel.

Beauty Bible: Nailing It

So you all know I'm a nailpolish fiend - especially when it comes to strange colours. But this addiction has its perks; the lovely Kate from Beauty Bible (amazing local beauty website!!) invited me to write a piece on nailpolish, so I had a much enjoyable ramble.
Check it out here!!

Breton

I feel like I have been hunting for the perfect Breton top for forever. Matelot (nautical) stripes in cream and navy are so classic - yet not boring as some "classic pieces" are. They manage to be preppy yet casual, chicly feminine yet boyish. And deliciously French - epitomised by Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin and Audrey Tatou in Coco Avant Chanel. The breton is also a typical Alexa Chung look - really love the red version she wore recently on her MTV show, is a fresh take on the classic look.

I am particularly lusting after the ones from Burberry's and A.P.C (center and right) and closer to home To Sir With Love's unbelievably soft cashmere sweater. I love the ones where the stripes start from the upper chest - breaks up the intensity a bit.

Couture Fall 09: Chanel

So what do Chanel and My Little Pony have in common (other than my eternal love of both) - the best ponytails ever. Seriously, don't these mindblowingly wierd/awesome/ubergirly ponies remind you of the glittery ponies of youth? Too good. I love you Karl!!

La Chanel Rose

Although Chanel IS black and white - especially black when it comes to the iconic 2.55 bags - I do love a baby pink Chanel anything, soft and feminine. And the girlyness contrasts with the classic primness that is one of the key features of the brand.

Stretch

This is awesome. Bodysuits, Chanel, cigarettes and sunnies on a pilates reformer. I heart French Vogue

Ps: am back to Pilates classes now its the holidays and I don't have class - am hobbling around with sore thighs. So good to be back.

Pps: wish I looked like this doing bridges or downward-dogs.

Lara Does Spring 08

Just stumbled on this editorial form Self Service's spring/summer 08 issue. Love that it features some of my favorite pieces from that season - the Margiela dreamy horse print, Balmain fringing (Decarnin's Spring 08 collection is still one of my favorites he has ever done) and some of my beloved Chanel stars - that I mentioned only yesterday. I also love Lara in this - soft and natural, not as overtly sexy as she is often portrayed.
