Strip-Jean

Carine Roitfeld always does denim perfectly - sexy as hell but never vulgar, and still totally appealing to women. The editorial "La peau douce" in French Vogue's June 08 issue starring Natasha Poly is one of my all time favorites when it comes to denim. Here Raquel Zimmermann nocks it out of the park in flesh baring bleached denim, snakeskin and luxe metallics. Love the washed out, deer-in-a-headlights look of Tellers photographs. In these shots Zimmermann seems like a (perfect and gorgeous) lovechild of Jerry Hall and Brooke Shields (circa those Calvin Klein ads).

This Is England

I've finally got started on my epic dvd pile (its kept company by my book pile and magazine pile) and watched This Is England. Stunning film - set in England in 1983 it tells the story of a twelve year old boy who finds mentors and friends in a group of skins. Surprisingly poignant and sensitive - the violence is restrained and measured, certainly not gratuitous. Touches on universal themes of belonging, loneliness, family and values.

And I LOVED the costumes - skinny denim (blue, bleached, acidwash), fitted Ben Sherman checked shirts, suspenders, docs, army jackets, diy tattoos. This will DEF be a style influence.

21/04/09: Pixie Market

Why oh why are all the best goodies from Pixie Market sold out alread?! Actually I think I just answered my own question. These all would fit right into my wardrobe seamlessly; bleach leggings, mesh sweatshirt, vest blazer, torn jeans.
Ps: That crimped hair is too cute.

Do We Dare? Tied Shirts

Believe it or not, I'm really loving the look of tied shirts at the moment - I was fully working this trend way back when I was eight. Don't know if thats a good sign or bad - but then I've been wearing bike shorts, baggy tees and chucks again too. But will people "get it" or just think you are totally daggy (god havnt used that word since I was... Eight actually!).

Hedi Slimane: Leather and Lace

Heres a bit of something for the males from the ever amazing Hedi Slimane. Im a sucker for guys in leather, skinny jeans and necklaces. Love that bullet belt and the Stones-esque luxury of that black lace. Don't even get me started on that studded leather jacket.. Seriously.

Down With Shame

I don't think I've seen Natasha Poly look this stunning since her editorial in the April 08 issue of French Vogue. The lighting is amazing - as is that Givenchy bow headband. Love the restrained palette, gorgeously tactile textures and the intriguing layers. Fab.

20/04/09: Cobrasnake

Loving the new shots on trusty old Cobrasnake from the Jeremy Scott for Adidas do. So much sick leopard print - particularly love the male cardy paired with gold chains, and Zoe Kravtiz's everything.
And as usual, Tallulah looks fab. Cropped black tank with leopard adidas logo is pretty much perfection. Def going to invest in one of those - wonder if the range is coming to our little corner of the world?

This girl is a constant source of inspiration. Love the big creamy patterned shirt with dirty old black boots. And Im sure those are a pair of my beloved RayBan Clubmasters.

Varsity Jacket Lover

Im so wanting a varsity jacket. The chances of me finding an original vintage here in NZ (and that actually fits!) are like a needle in a haystack.. Good thing Lover have done a sick one for their Winter 09 collection Sacred Hearts (I covet all of it).

Flora by Gucci

This I love. I always die for the Gucci campaigns, and Abbey Lee is one of my all time faves. The video for this is also stunning (though nothing beats the one for the Fall 08 campaign).

Ps: Did you know that to make the video, they tied flowers to the tops of stalks in a corn field?! Def worth it.

The fantastic Black Magazine have put the male version of their Issue Ten cover up on their blog. I love this... Red plaid, limited colour, side lighting. And I'm a sucker for long hair on males.

Front Row Diary

Front Row Diary is finally here!! Def go check it out. So great to have a bit of Anna Fitzpatrick back - I am in withdrawl from the loss of her great show The Seen ever since Alt TV went m.i.a. Same goes with Runway Reporter

Viva Le Males

The New Zealand Herald's Viva from yesterday (always the highlight of my midweek) was the best its been in ages! Dedicated to menswear - which I love, and wear.

V interesting piece on Stolen Girlfriends Club about their super successful branding and image.

"We did everything backwards, but I think we did the right thing about growing and establishing a brand, which is really hard these days," says Moore. "People don't realise that if you don't have a brand, you don't have anything. We stumbled across ours so to speak, but we did create a little bit of a following. People wanted to know what the name meant, what was behind it, it had this whole thing of mystery and interpretation as well and everyone kind of took ownership of it."

Their white safety pin dress from the current collection featured on FashionToast.com, where blogger Rumi Neely declared them her "new favourite label". That's kind of a big deal when you realise that style websites and bloggers like Neely are quickly becoming just as, if not more, influential than mainstream fashion magazines.

And they have me v excited for the summer collection - two words: Robert Palmer! Robert Palmer!
we wanna do something different and surprise people'," says Moore. "The new summer collection is heaps more modern, with bolder colours and detailing, a touch more sophisticated. Think Robert Palmer videos."

They also had an article by Isaac Hinden Miller on his insanely admirable (and rewarding) efforts at Paris Mens Fashion Week. The dude seriously gets an A++ for effort and tenacity.
