The Outnet: Balmainia

I feel like a blatant fix of Balmania. A ton (no joke) of it has popped up on The Outnet lately, so I spent the whole other night salivating over all of it.

One of the iconic looks I associate with Balmain under Christophe Decarnin is silver embelishd black pieces, be they bejeweled jackets or sequin encrusted dresses.

On the flipside, I have always been a sucker for the Little White Dresses that pop up every season. Kindof "Groupie Goes To A Garden Party" dont you think?

Their infamous distressed skinnies have been hot property for seasons now - I particularly love the pairs with the detail at the knees.
Left to Right: Zip-detail Narrow Jeans, Stonewash Biker Jeans, Distressed Denim Jeans.

That sequined top is undoubtably one of my favorite pieces ever - from the Spring 08 collection (one of my all time most loved collections from anyone ever) it is surprisingly timeless and trans-seasonal. I'm not gonna lie, I would wear this with EVERYTHING.

That black lace tee with killer shoulders from Spring 09 is also an all time favorite, and likewise would actually be super wearable (as opposed with uber-embellished mini dresses).

And while I love their OTT animal print jackets, that tee grabs me a lot more - simplicity, comfort etc.
Left to Right: Leopard Print T-Shirt, Leopard Print Leather Jacket, Zebra-print Calfskin Blazer.

And I will always be a sucker for the tie-dyed print pieces from the afor-mentioned and much beloved Spring 08 collection. Although my favorite of all were the tie-dyed flares that Erin Wasson was seen out and about in.

I love all the detail shots - the beadwork, sequins and mesh are dreamy.

And, I will always ALWAYS love this dress.

Ps: Sorry guys, some of the pieces sold out before I could go back and add links to them!!!

Black & White

So I only just realised that (one of) the 21st I'm going to tomorrow night is black and white themed. This so should not throw me - I mean who can mess up a black and white outfit? I wear them a lot in summer - loose black tanks white white skinnies or cutoffs, simple, casual - and a bit tomboy. But being winter I pile on a million pieces of clothing when I go out - and I find if I limit them to black and white I end up thinking I look like a waiter/tuxedo/penguin/backstreetboy

Another prob - have zero black or white dresses that are appropriate for someone's 21st (too short, tight or casual) and I just feel way to rude wearing pants. Will have to have an intense wardrobe raid. Old faithful Karen Walker white lace top good def be a go! It's a lifesaver - and so so pretty, which always helps.

White Denim

There's something timeless and iconic about a blonde in white denim. Always a winner when roughed up and paired with a loose white tee - casual but with an edge and a sense of luxury than standard (although much adored) blue.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream...

I love the film Picnic At Hanging Rock (and book by Joan Lindsay) I've actually been to Hanging Rock! It was amazing - so beautiful and creepy (and I hadn't seen the film before I went). Definitely get your hands on the film (director Peter Weir is a genius - and he brought international attention to Australian film making, and is behind other great films like Dead Poets Society and The Truman Show). It is visually stunning; the heat is visible, and the wafting white cottons convey innocence and purity, and stifling, hothouse atmosphere of the boarding school is captured perfectly. The rock has a presence all of its own - oppressive, dominating, threatening, yet magnetic (literally and figuratively). Interestingly, film was actually shot with sheer fabric draped over the lens to give it that dreamy, ethereal quality.

This summer I want to channel Miranda and Irma in wafting white dresses, loose disheveled buns and natural makeup.

Dreaming Of A White Christmas

For some reason, I always love wearing white at christmas. I don't know if this is from my many childhood memories of The Nutcracker (wafting around in a nightgown with the Sugarplum Fairy). White does have a formality too it (its usually too impractical/high maintenance to wear day to day) and it really suits our Southern Hemisphere summer Christmas. It also has an innocence to it - something I find important when it comes to this time of year (traditional holiday, memories of childhood naivete and dreams, family events etc).

White is perfect for events with the fam:
.. And for fun and play:
I will def be having a white Christmas this year! Really inspired by (featured above) Balmain, Chloe, and Karen Walker. For day/fam going for pretty, youthful smock/nighty type dresses. And for night sleek white body con and silver - very short for showing off my pins!
