LFW: Armand Basi, Charles Anastase, Sinha-Stanic

The Armand Basi One collection showed an amazingly strong, androgynous look. Love the shapes of the boxy jackets, loose pants and tight jackets - especially the simplicity of the oversized black jumper.

Charles Anastase referred to his collection as "autobiographical" rather than retro, and I do think it steers clear of having the strained retro look. Love the fabrics (patent leather, wool, fur, sheer), the shoes (he always uses the most outrageous shoes - they complement the delicate elements of his clothes perfectly) and the makeup - the dark lip pops up again.
I also like the combination of the sheer fabric and the shearling at Sinha-Stanic.

What we see and what we seem are but a dream...

I love the film Picnic At Hanging Rock (and book by Joan Lindsay) I've actually been to Hanging Rock! It was amazing - so beautiful and creepy (and I hadn't seen the film before I went). Definitely get your hands on the film (director Peter Weir is a genius - and he brought international attention to Australian film making, and is behind other great films like Dead Poets Society and The Truman Show). It is visually stunning; the heat is visible, and the wafting white cottons convey innocence and purity, and stifling, hothouse atmosphere of the boarding school is captured perfectly. The rock has a presence all of its own - oppressive, dominating, threatening, yet magnetic (literally and figuratively). Interestingly, film was actually shot with sheer fabric draped over the lens to give it that dreamy, ethereal quality.

This summer I want to channel Miranda and Irma in wafting white dresses, loose disheveled buns and natural makeup.

Gatsby and Daisy

Mia Farrow is so stunning as Daisy Buchanan.. All pastels, wafty chiffons, long dresses, big hats, jewelery and flowers - and a tumbler! Robert Redford's Gatsby cuts a dashing figure in his cream and pastel day suits, and three piece tuxedoes for night. The scenery and sets are equally divine - this film is a visual feast! I so want to have a Great Gatsby party one day. Inspiring for summer style and life.. Both Daisy and Gatsby!
