MFW: Fendi

FENDI
Karl has done it again, with another amazing collection for Fendi. The whole collection has a really great and juxtaposing luxury/apocolyptic feel - nice concept for the recession, if not realistic on the bank balance. The muddy pallet of blacks, browns and greys works really well - particularly because of the amazing textures in the collection. I really can't get over the fur-lined fur coat on Stam, nor the cropped fur lined jacket in the second shot. The breastplates (leather? maybe?) contrast beautifully with the fur.

Being a velvet fiend, I loved these pieces - especially the blood red dress on the right. The detail shots are sublime. The velvet headbands frame the face beautifully. You can really see the detail in the double-fur jacket and also the contrasting textures in the third shot.

The booties are just to die for. Amazing heel shapes, fur trimmed, rough leather finish and ankle cut outs that flash some skin.
Love the tweedy bag with leather details, and I'm sure I don't need to go on (again and again) about why I love furry bags.

MFW: Dsquared²

The girls in the Dsquared show stalked the runway with not only insane clothes, but also starbucks, big sunnies, and US weeklys. Love it. Messy hair, smoke eyes. Hats and sunnies to be anonymous. Def morning after a big one. Fab.
I also think the whole collection was very wearable; had some great ideas for layering for winter - leather over denim over cardies over tees. The jacket-over-jacket trend that's been noticeable on a lot of the street style blogs lately was also done really well - I think it works best when one is denim, so you get the pop/contrast of the blue. Definitely a fun, young collection (leopard print, acidwash, sunnies etc) but toughened up by studded leather pieces, army jackets and smoky eyes.
Suprisingly, loving the shirt-around-waist look havn't done that since I was about 8!

MFW: Roberto Cavalli

ROBERTO CAVALLI
Love the collection from Cavalli - working the the tough/dark look (a refreshing look after the past few seasons of romance and glamour).  Cavalli described his new girl as "She's tough, aggressive, sexy, and young, and she's going to help me fight this crisis."

Lots of pieces were grommeted and studded, giving them pattern, weight and the shine and coolness of metal.
Laced up skinny pants make legs go on forever, and love the way the rich black collars on the (amazing) jackets frame the face.
The long, sheer dresses were in a world of their own - the fluidity and movement in the fabric is gorgeous, as are the touches of metallic.
 Ps: More furry shoes!

MFW: Gucci

GUCCI
Although I wasn't particularly sold on the Gucci Fall 09 collection at first (not a fan of the prints and nothing competes with their Fall 08) - as more and more slick, sharp black looks came out I definitely had a change of heart. Im also feeling a bit of Bowie in their - the string makeup, the metallic suits.
The insane, sparkly/metallic outfits that come out towards the end were a magpies dream - and lifted by the palette of black, navy and gunmetal.
Loved the slouchy, black, matte-snakeskin clutch - and the heel on those boots is insane.

MFW: Prada Accessories = Perfect

I wasn't that sold on the Prada Fall 09 collection, then again it's probably one of the ones that I'll go back and look at a million times as it starts to grow on me - then end up obsessed with it (happened countless times before). What I did absolutely die for however were their insane (as always) accessories.

The boots were out of this world; solid and intense with sueded details and slouchy, folded woolen tops (evoking socks no doubt) and then held up with leather straps and buckles. Perfect, refined use of the bondage details that have been such a strong look these past few seasons - and actually pretty usefull, no more awkwardly trying to pull your boots up!
Bags, as usual, were perfection. Love the classic ladylike bags in the bugundy - the soft leather stops them looking to hard and prim. But the glistening fur bag in the centre is by far my favorite.
The heels were in a world of their own - they look like the love child of a gladiator and a dinosaur. Literally so fierce. Im really liking this dino shoe trend (also seen at Christopher Kane's Spring 09 show).

MFW: Alessandro Dell'Acqua & Blumarine

ALESSANDRO DELL'ACQUA
And I thought I loved the Spring 08 collection from Alessandro Dell'Acqua, and now the Fall 09 surpasses it totally! The furs are insane - the texture and colour. Particularly love the fourth one - esp it's collar.
The luxurious fur contrasts amazingly with the slick, cool chainmail (reminds me a bit of the chainmail pieces in Balenciaga's Spring 07 collection)

BLUMARINE
The Blumarine collection was unashamedly pure bling. Straight up. But done in the best possible way - the sleek black blazers are a great foil for the jewels and electric colour.

MFW: Emilio Pucci

So I'm definitely not usually a Pucci girl, but the Fall 09 collection from Emilio Pucci's new designer Peter Dundas is to die for, but then again I am partial to a good fur and a skinny as hell leg. Style.Com mentions that "The lack of overt Pucci references—the kind that dependably evoke the label's Capri-in-the-sixties origins—was striking" - I agree and think it's a very good thing.

Clothes wise, great zip details on the pants, and the knit worn by Jordan Dunn in the fourth look has a life of its own.
Some great sharp little dresses too. The first would be a perfect winter party dress (plus opaques and boots), love the insane pink of the second, and the texture of the third. And love Natasha "the show doesn't start until I walk on" Poly.

MFW: Iceberg

ICEBERG
The collection from Iceberg had some really interesting pieces; knitted jackets that looked like scales, snakeskin, overized and lumpy pink knits.
However nothing beats their Spring 09 collection. I die for that - it's one of my favorite collections by anyone ever.

MFW: Missoni & Burberry

MISSONI
The layers and shapes of colours and textures in the Fall 09 collection that Missoni showed in Milan are amazing. Greys, blues, beiges and soft browns - who knew they could all be put together so well? I love the layers and layers of knits; draped, folded, peeking out from under eachother. And love the slouchy, semi-sheer leggings.

BURBERRY
Burberry also really impressed me with their collection (I wasn't that sold on their Spring 09). Christopher Bailey played with a tried and true classic British theme - the Bloomsbury group (notably the classic looks of Virginia Wolf and Vanessa Bell) - and it worked really well. Soft, slouchy layers; floaty white dresses (in the increasingly popular calf length). I love how they are all paired with grey tights and black shoes. And am lusting after that first coat. Perfect.
