Dark Lily

I've always been a sucker for anything a bit occult and pagan - so I love these shots. Lily's delicate, soft, english-rose beauty juxtaposes the darker elements perfectly. The sunlight countryside is a foil to the darker themes and embelished pieces - and is evocative an earth-mother worship nature-cults (in my mind anyway).

Lily

I love Lily Donaldson - she makes a gorgeous romantic hippy. Almost a summer version of the Lily from the Gucci Winter 08 campaign. Love the lighting and colours. And have been coveting daisy headbands even more than usual since one of the January issue of Russh featured some stunners.

CHLOE

Oh Chloe. Loved. I finally got to look at the collection late last night, and this morning I still can't get over the insane coats. Big, drapey, foldey and bold. Love the muddy tones and the leather edging. I think number one fave would def by the third look that Freja's wearing (also love those boots).

Like last season, the colours of the collection are stunning - all neutral, veering from muddy to some pretty creams and beiges - and all put together amazingly. There were some great pant looks too. Love the middle look. There have been so many pleated pants all over the runways and outside the shows.
I die for the cream looks. The long white dress takes me back to the much beloved collections of Spring 06 and Spring 07. Im really loving the mixing of cream, tan and beige at the moment, and Chloe has done it so well.

And how stunning are the long, sheer skirts? The gathering and fabric gives them the most beautiful movement. Love how the piece on Lily is contrasted with an oversized cream blazer. So so pretty. I want something like this - but know I'd stand on the hem and rip it.

Shoes were too cute. Lace up booties in tan? Fab.

Best Of The Best of The Brits

Peter Stichbury

As promised, heres a proper post on Peter Stichbury - one of my all time favorite painters. He's an amazingly talented New Zealander (recipient of lots of awards too). Working mostly in acrylic on linen or canvas, his work deals with themes of beauty, perfection, artiface. He distorts and exaggerates his models features so that what was one beauty, now looks alien and strange - exploring the fine line between beauty and ugliness. His work "accentuate the manicured angst and carefully crafted existentialism" of the fashion industry. His subjects seem alien, cold, aloof and asexual.

I was lucky enough to get to see the first major retrospective of his work at Te Tuhi gallery - and it was an amazing experience. Words cant describe the beauty (both visually and technically) of his paintings. I love that his work comments on the fashion industry, without resorting to ugliness, cheap tricks, or harsh commentary.
