NYFW Spring 2010: Alexa & Erin

One of the things I love about fashion weeks, other than the amazing collections obviously, is that it brings so many of favorite sartorial muses out of hiding. Granted, we have been getting a lot of Alexa action lately with her stateside MTV show, it's still nice to see her "in the wild" so to speak. And I would quite possibly snatch and grab that Mulberry bag. Survival of the fittest oui?

Erin, as expected, looked all kinds of crazy-awesome at her show. Although I'm always a sucker for an ethnic blanket jacket, I'm not gonna lie.

NYFW Spring 2010: Charlotte Ronson, Erin x RVCA, Preen

CHARLOTTE RONSON

Miss Ronson hit all the nails on the head with her show - reinterpreting a lot of the current trends (denim, plaid, sheer). Her collection had a delicious grungy-ballerina-off-duty look. The contrasts between the two ideas shouldn't work, but they sure as hell do.

I love the nude palette of tones; soft ballet pinks and creamy tans. These offset the beat up and shredded denim pieces perfectly, not to mention the chain and embellished details, and the injections of sharp black. I particularly love the endearing quirkiness of the (perfect) pink blazer with the plaid shirt.

The darker looks worked equally well. Love the shear black tees.
A splash of brighter colour was provided by the perfect shades of sky blue and chambray (both die hard faves of mine). I'm totally digging short suits a the moments, so the blue one ticked all the boxes. I also have the urge to start tying my shirts... Which I haven't done since the age of about seven.

ERIN WASSON X RVCA

This year, our girl Erin was playing with the big boys at the tents - and did not disappoint. The collection perfectly captured her trademark and much lusted after grunge-hippie aesthetic - with some refreshingly simple and timeless pieces thrown in (like a lovely "frumpy length" stripe skirt).

I particularly love the dye-ey pieces in a myriad of blues; they don't scream tie-dye, more evoking the ocean and the sky. Killer cut offs are an unsurprising, but very welcome feature. And I love that oversized breton top on Irina.
I love the soft tailoring of the nude-toned outfit on the left. And the spotty, midrif baring shirt on Freja - although I think I'd double the amount of my daily sit-ups before I slipped into that. And hello "Keep It Neil" tee! Being a major Neil Young fan, this I obviously love.

PREEN

I loved the slick and futuristic metallic pieces from Preen's collection. The leggings I would do in a heartbeat. That dress however? I admire from afar, but god you would need killer body confidence to handle that baby.

Musing: Olsens, Erin, Wang, Chung

Opening Ceremony's Japan opening party brought out some of my alltime style faves. The Olsen's absolutely made my day by wearing matching shades and bunny ears. They remind us that fashion is best when one has fun with it - you can be humorous and ironic, yet not take yourself too seriously. I'm also seriously coveting Erin's shorts.

Alexa's also been looking v cute lately - the girl does a tee + a-line skirt combo like know one else. God I wish I suited those sorts of outfits. That first image alone has amped up my loafer-desire even more, and now I'm wanting to pair them with spotty sheer tights. Oh dear.
The girl's also got killer festival fashion; aforementioned spotty pantyhose, perfect grandpa-like cardy/shirt combo, ace leather shorts - and that tricked out fedora has got me wanting to DIY my own.

Tied In Knots

I still can't stop wearing topknots. They are just the perfect solution to a bad hair day - totally rectifies when our hairs messy, knotty, disagreeable or dirty (with the help of some baby powder - perk of being blonde!). I love them when they are a bit messy and slept in, they convey a gorgeous, appealing and unpretensious nonchalance and realism. Childlike and innocent yet also a suggest a bit of trouble too.

They are in nearly every issue of Russh - always executed to perfection. Erin Wasson is undoubtably the queen of the knot - she even wore a big side angled one to the Met's Costume Institute Gala this year. I also love the cute buns done by Stephen Marr for Juliette Hogan's beautiful summer lookbook.

Black & White

So I only just realised that (one of) the 21st I'm going to tomorrow night is black and white themed. This so should not throw me - I mean who can mess up a black and white outfit? I wear them a lot in summer - loose black tanks white white skinnies or cutoffs, simple, casual - and a bit tomboy. But being winter I pile on a million pieces of clothing when I go out - and I find if I limit them to black and white I end up thinking I look like a waiter/tuxedo/penguin/backstreetboy. 

Another prob - have zero black or white dresses that are appropriate for someone's 21st (too short, tight or casual) and I just feel way to rude wearing pants. Will have to have an intense wardrobe raid. Old faithful Karen Walker white lace top good def be a go! It's a lifesaver - and so so pretty, which always helps.

Seeing Red

I love red with denim. Red is a colour I have trouble wearing - being blonde I usually uber cliche in a straight-up-red dress, and it often washes me the hell out. Denim really tones down the intensity and connotations it has - particularly this perfectly battered vest courtesy of our girl Erin Wasson.

The Met's Costume Institute Gala 09: Neo-Supers

Unsurprisingly, the models kicked ass on the red carpet at The Met Ball. The neo-supers all looked mind blowing - and super fresh. This is why they are payed the big bucks and front pretty much everything. They look to die for on the runway, in editorial, in candids and on the red carpet.

My three all time faves looked stunning. Trust Erin to blow everyone away in some insane zipped leather pants. That girl is an icon. Sasha looks absolutely ethereal and yet somehow earthy at the same time. I LOVE her hair. Best of the night. Daria gives a tiny sparkly dress edge and mystery (total opposite of what we saw on Giselle).

The other big names looked amazing too. Anja is made for Balmain (her shoulders do worry me somewhat though...). Miranda manages to be super sexy but not vulgar. Caroline looks like a total princess - every girls dream, and I could SO see that dress on an Olsen (probably MK). I can't tell you how much Im dying for that insane chainmail dress by Alexander Wang that Lara is wearing. She's got the figure to wear it instead of it wearing her.

Dan Martensen: Abbey Lee

I dont know why its taken me sooo long to  note Dan Martensen's amazing work, but suddenly it seems to be popping up everywhere I look. Abbey Lee is one of my favorite girls (and a fellow aussie) - so I understandably love these shots. Martensen is amazing at capturing the girls' natural style and beauty (like the Erin Wasson shots I posted previously).

Ps: How hot is that Alexander Wang full length lace body suit. Seriously.

More Dan Martensen

After seeing those gorgeous shots of Shannan Click yesterday, I had a look at more of Dan Martensen's work.. And pretty much died when I saw his shots of (my idol, as you know) Erin Wasson. They are stunning, and totally capture not only her style but also her life.

I love love this shot... It doesn't get much cooler than this.
.. Except maybe that studded leather jacket does.
And off the Erin tangent, Im not usually an Aggy fan - but I really love this.

Do We Dare? Tied Shirts

Believe it or not, I'm really loving the look of tied shirts at the moment - I was fully working this trend way back when I was eight. Don't know if thats a good sign or bad - but then I've been wearing bike shorts, baggy tees and chucks again too. But will people "get it" or just think you are totally daggy (god havnt used that word since I was... Eight actually!).

Smells Like Teen Spirit

Looove this. It is so  not too soon for 90s nostalgia. Makes me want to rewatch Empire Records and Stealing Beauty. And it was styled by Erin Wasson! Psych. The 90s def has the best layering inspiration, that and the late 60s-70s.

Hedi's Girls of 07

Stayed up way past my bedtime lastnight (bad idea, 5:30am wakeupcall for uni this morning) looking at Hedi Slimane's photography. Found this gorgeous shoot from 07 of some of my fave girls - Natasha, Gemma, Raquel and Erin. Love the black and white with the beachy hair, slouchy peekaboo tshirting.

Erin is stunning as usual - the girl has some amazing tats as well.

Nostalgic Muse: Janis Joplin

Sorry for the lack of posts, has been a crazy few days!!! Thought I'd do a post on one of my favorite nostalgic muses, they fabulously disheveled Janis Joplin. Her messy straggly, big round glasses and witchy grin top of her perfect hippy/gypsy style. Its evident everywhere at the moment, but done best by Mary Kate and Erin, and at Gucci.

Times like this I wish I lived in Venice beach... Well actually, I always do.

Erin Opens Up

 “Sometimes I just have to touch base with that 27-year-old girl that I am. Yes I'm a model. Yes I'm designing. Yes I do some styling, I got a jewelry line and I know a lot of hats but sometimes I just want to be that girl that wakes up and cooks breakfast and hangs out with her man and hangs out in the backyard and jumps on the bike and goes down to the beach. It's really important to live a simple life sometimes. You know? Back to basics. That’s my mantra these days. Simplicity.” 

“I get approached for a lot of TV projects.
