Get Your Wilsons On For A Great Cause

You'd be hard pressed to find a kiwi girl who doesn't covet Kathryn Wilson's shoes - her Toyas alone are already infamousl hard to find. Not that we need an excuse when it comes to shoes, but if you want another Wilson fix, get thee to her third annual shoe exhibition this thursday. It's in conjucton with YWCA and will raise money for their Future Leaders mentoring programme.

Ten preview pairs for the summer collection are up for silent auction - as is the crazy-awesome opportunity to design a shoe with Wilson and have it made.

The event is for women and will be held at Art Lounge, New Gallery, Lorne Street, on Thursday 27^th August from 6pm-8pm. Tickets are $60 and need to be purchased in advance from the YWCA, phone 09 375 9247 or visit www.akywca.org.nz

Atacoma

I've already mentioned my love for Acne's Atacoma wedge when they popped up on Alexa Chung a little while ago. Now they are up on the website and the detail shots make me lust after them even more. On closer inspection, the arch angle isn't too insanely high at all (this is a v good thing!). I would kill for the babies. I justify my "need" by the fact that I really struggle to wear proper heels (because of my problem feet - they are the bane of my existence) but a wedge gives me the stability and support I so need.

They also come in a deliciously soft cloudy blue - its amazing how colour and fabric can totally change the look and impact of a shoe. These would be heavenly with bleached out denim, or a creamy toned outfit for summer.

Alexander Wang Fall 09 Accessories

Am currently lying in bed feeling ill and sorry for myself - so I think some accessory-porn c/o the obscenely talented Alexander Wang is in order.

This backpack is possibly one of the best bags I have ever seen. And so refreshing and has a trippy combination of edgy danger and youthfull innocence (well when did you last wear a backpack). I have been searching for the perfect vintage black leather backpack for a while now. But shall keep dreaming of this one.

17/06/09: Shop Shop Shop

So I FINALLY went shopping (properly) today now that I am free from uni. God it was good. Pretty much took up my whole day post-gym. And although today was freezing (something I combatted c/o my beloved Tv leopard merino leggings and my fave of mums cashmere jerseys) it was stunningly sunny and beautiful.

Black Box was perfect, but then again when is it not? I left wanting/needing new jeans. Stolen Girlfriends Club jeans are pretty much the only type that fit my body perfectly, and always have the most kick ass styles - I'm seriously craving their perfectly faded torn skinnies that are slashed all up the leg, but have a denim layer underneath (for warmth and practicality - therefore they are obviously a sensible/necessary purchase oui?). Also wanting some of the Tv jeans that are slashed all the way up.

A pit stop to Vixen in St Kev's saw my find this uber comfy clompy pair of Dr Martens mary janes - heaven for my decrepit feet. When I brought then out at home later I thought the fam would have a fit - but they actually liked. Was a tad shocked, but pleased.

Paid a long overdue visit to Children Of Vision and the ever lovely James Dobson - I did the usual, stared longingly at all the stock, stroked the puffpaint splatered pieces and pesterred him about when Romance Was Born's summer collection was coming in - I want aaall of it, no joke. Except possibly not the semi-infamous Octopus Bonnet.

With some extra cash that was accumulating in my wallet I fiiinaaally paid of my ankle boots from Mi Piaci - have been searching for a staple pair like these FOREVER. Most are way to large widthwise for my scrawny feet, and not many had the inbuilt platform that I wanted - but these ticked all the boxes. And now its holidays and I am reacquainted with my social life I actually have places to wear them! Excellent.

Treated myself to some new lippy - a MAC Satin in Snob (have been needing/wanting for a while now).

Superette have some awesome Lover pieces, think me and the little sis will have a bit of a try on when we pop in on saturday. And I still NEED/LOVE the Ksubi Aras. Every time I put them on it just feels like they complete me.

Tried on some of the new(ish - considering my lack of shopping lately) Toy Watches. So cute. Like plastic versions of my current and much loved Tissot (I call it my Seventies Porno Watch) and also remind me of the white Chanel watches that I've coveted forever. So obviously I loved the Plasteramic in white!

Final stop was Karen Walker, had a lovely long chat with the awesome Scarlet and spent forever looking at possible 21st birthday jewelry options - loving the owl ring (quite meaningful as my late grandmother collected owl ornaments) and the carrots (ideally in gold - more carrot appropriate colour oui?). I've wanted that blue cocktail knuckle duster forever, and have desperately wanted the cigarette butt charm for even longer. Sigh.

New Goodies: Tv and Tweed

Picked up my Tv leopard merino leggings from Black Box yesterday. They are HEAVENLY. So unbelievably warm and comfortable - and surprisingly super wearable. The colours of taupe, grey and black means they go with pretty much everything.

On a cheaper note, I hit up my local salvo shop as well and got an amazing purple/grey/tan tweed oversized blazer for a cool $10. Super comfy and warm and with magically deep pockets. Handbag not required.

And I know these will def not be to everyones taste (my lil sister grimaced when I pulled them out of the bag) but i love these. Super cute!!! V similar to a pair I had when I was a kid. And $4... So I could not say no. 
Have been loving socks lately too - they are keeping my poor scrawny midget feet warm!

Orthopedic

God know why, but for some reason lately I've been seriously attracted to any black shoes that are big, clumpy and more than vaguely orthopedic. Possibly could be a subconscious by-product of my actually crappy feet; scrawny-skinny, flat and basically collapsing in on themselves. Pretty. I also love footwear that says "Fuck off" (hence why I live in my Docs).

Seeing Red

I love red with denim. Red is a colour I have trouble wearing - being blonde I usually uber cliche in a straight-up-red dress, and it often washes me the hell out. Denim really tones down the intensity and connotations it has - particularly this perfectly battered vest courtesy of our girl Erin Wasson.

12/03/09: K Road

Walked up from uni to K-Road today - hadn't been there in ages (have been avoiding shopping aka attempting to save money) - and hit up the relatively warm and sheltered St Kev's arcade. Walked into Little Black Crown and was super excited too see the amazing shoes and bags from Lost Not Lonely. I tried a pair of the beautiful Dusty Bootish on - have them coveted insanely since I first saw them in the autumn Fashion Quartlerly, and have been searching for wedge platform ankle boots forever so these seemed like the answer to my prayers...

... Unfortunately because my feet are super skinny and flat, they fitted lengthwise but were ridiculously roomy. So disappointing! They did however also have some amazing bags - which don't need to fit anything. The Rural Post Bag is even more amazing in the flesh. Stunning.

Also went into Children Of Vision - I could linger over each piece in their for hours. The super nice James Dobson (of Jimmy D) even let me look at the brand new Romance Was Born lookbook of the (wearable versions) of the collection they just showed at RAFW. I think I said "ohmygod" at every page, sorry James. The whole collection is to die for. All of it. And I am so not usually a girly girl - but I totally LOVE this collection. Insanely cool nana/mermaid/slut style.

I always find myself going back to the colour combination of white, cream, denim blue and soft brown - especially when I can't think what to wear. Its just casual enough but chic at the same time, and soft but not do girly. And you can wear a bunch of different shades but never clash. 100% failsafe. Actually I've pretty much got stuff like this to put on after the gym this mornin (Karen Walker acid wash skinnys, cream cashmere tshirt, tan leather jacket). Must have had this in the back of my mind last night when packing!

To be honest, I really doing get the hype over Manolo's and Choo's - If I could spend that much on shoes, I'd rather get something insane. Im pretty much obsessed with anything Nicholas Kirkwood does - so LOVE the pair in the bottom right shot. Also loving the idea of spurs over heeled ankle boots - wonder if they came with that pair? Or were a DIY add on. A cream shearling is def on my  To list.

Macaroni Penguin

The brand new pop up store Macaroni Penguin opened yesterday!Such a great concept, Ive been really interested in the success pop up stores have been having overseas in the likes of New York and London. Such a great way to combat the recession; win win for all parties creating it, and loved by the consumer as the short time period they are open means they stores are hot property the whole time.

Brigette and I went along to the opening last night. Were really impressed! Great stock (both current and previous seasons) from Karen Walker Eyewear, Kathryn Wilson, Sera Lily, Alexandra Owen, Twenty Seven Names and more. The masterminds behind it are Anna Fitzpatrick of Front Row Diary (and the late, great The Seen) Angela Crane (Pull Your Socks Up). 

I came home with a super comfy and great galaxy print tee dress from Twenty Seven Names (have been coveting galaxy prints for what feels like FOREVER). Brigette nearly died when she saw what is pretty much the last pair of Kathryn Wilsons' Toya boot in the country.. Unfortunately she left it too late and when she went back today they had gone.. Tres tragic, poor girl. Lots of the amazing Kathryn Wilson shoes were super discounted - am v tempted to go back and get myself a pair of the Tanesya flat chocolate lace ups.
