Snap Snap Anja

This editorial made me giggle.. Just a little, because these were the first things I though of. She looks awesome though! Tinman and Nutcracker are fierce - working the military trend!

Bricks, Shoes & Bags

Erin's bags and shoes.. Her accessories wall is a work of art. I lust after EVERYTHING..

I also wonder where the hell I can find a spare wall in my house - let alone brick! Also speaking of Erin/finding, I wonder if her line for RVCA is coming to new zealand? I love the black and white vest top!

Unchained Melody

I love this. It so (romantically, nostalgically) sums up 1969, Woodstock, etc.

Shoe Heaven: Pastel and Metal

Wow. Just wow. These are from Nicholas Kirkwood's Spring 08 range..

I think I would wear these with my bleached cut offs, and a loose white tee, with silver jewelry. These are art.

Francophile: Stationary

How gorgeous are these products from Cavallini & Co? Ive loved them ever since I found them in Passion For Paper in Parnell Road (amazing little shop - exactly how a stationary/paper shop really should be). They products have a lived in, old world feel - without being cliche. And as Im a total Francophile/Anglophile I sooo need to get myself some. I bought a notebook for Brigette for Christmas - accompanied by a beautiful little Noel card (she went to France and Italy this year - lucky thing!)

Body Issue

Just finished reading the January 09 Harper's Bazaar "The Body Issue", and its got some really interesting tips and tricks that I am so going to try.

Lifting Weights Technique
3 sets of 10 reps only burns fat thats under the skin. To burn fat in the muscle you should do 25 reps of the heaviest weights you can lift.

Stretch
To keep muscles long and lean

Massages
Lengthen and loosen tight muscle, and prevent damage (0h if you insist then)

Chew
Chewing food well aids the digestive system (mine is a mess)

Cold Blast
Cold shower/water on your legs improves both circulation and tone. Apparently most leg problems (cellulite, tone, bloating) is caused by poor circulation (something I already know I have, my dark under eye circles, red fingers, chilblains and renauds prove)

Ksubi Legs

Also while in Superette, I (omg) found two pairs (one black, one nude) of the infamously hard to find Ksubi Lace Pants... But they were both M, and I need XS. They are going to ring the ksubi distributors on monday (when the office is open again), but the girl at Superette was saying that they had a hard enough time finding the pairs they did. Fingers crossed! I want them sooo bad! They are like jeans at the top, but the legs are see through, and if I remember right the hems were ragged/raw. God they were hot. I want the nude ones.

Ksubi Eyes

So I was in Superette yesterday and I tried on these pairs Ksubi sunglasses (again - I do every time I go in). Am thinking I may need to purchase? The tortoiseshell is so classic and chic, and combined with the chunky square frames they look very late 80s/early 90s lawyer (or so I think). Thoughts? Which pair do you prefer? The more graphic tortoisehell or the more subtle?

"Ara 90s Tortoiseshell"

"Ishil Speckled Tortoiseshell"

They also remind me of these looks (which I loved) from Michael Kors Fall 08 show..

I Wish...

I wish I was doing this right now...

And go on an epic run, then do more of this...

But I have been called in to work this morning, so they will have to wait till this afternoon!

Shes Like A Rainbow

She comes in colors everywhere;
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere

New Years Resolutions

Go To More
Make the effort, buy tickets, rope in friends - and go too all the things I always mean to (concerts, festivals, markets etc)

Throw Myself Into My (New) Degree
Having changed degrees, and starting the new one this year (so excited omg), I am determined to put my everything into it.

Push Myself Further Sartorially
I already dress pretty "Weird But Cool" (fave phrase of me and Brigette - eg "Wow I love your bikeshorts, t-bars, ton of jewelry and leather vest.. It looks really cool, but weird, but cool!") but want to push myself further, especially as I will be out of the suburbs this year and at fashion school.

Take Care Of My Hair
I definitely have not been kind to my hair lately; bleached it white for all of 2007, and then spent 2008 mostly neglecting it and straightening it too much.

Surround Myself With Great People
I want to be around like minded, intelligent, cultured people - they are by far more interesting and fun, and they appreciate the person you are.

Watch All The Films On My "List"
Im sure you all have a "Films To Watch" list too. I really need to hack away at mine, especially now that we are finally getting a new TV (our old one is 16 years old, and my sister broke the DVD input point - so there have been no DVDs watched in our house for a long long time.)

Ditto My Book List
The pile of books beside my bed is INTENSE... But as the only time I have to read is on my break at work at West Coast Coffee, I don't really want to lug my big coffee table tomes like Influence to work with me. So I must make other time!

Search For Everything On My Clothes List
Okay I am a list fiend. I have this massive list of pieces I want (but can't find in stores).. I really need to track down as many as possible (weird small town opshops, internet, beg/steal/kill.

Put More Luxury Into Life
This was one of last years resolutions too (after reading Rachel Zoe's book "Style A to Zoe" - actually inspiring believe it or not) and it was a real success! So I want to take it even further, as it makes life so much more pleasurable and exciting.

What's Wrong With Vogue?

Cathy Horyn ponders the future of American Vogue and Anna Wintour in her piece in The New York Times - def worth a read!

Peter Stichbury

As promised, heres a proper post on Peter Stichbury - one of my all time favorite painters. He's an amazingly talented New Zealander (recipient of lots of awards too). Working mostly in acrylic on linen or canvas, his work deals with themes of beauty, perfection, artiface. He distorts and exaggerates his models features so that what was one beauty, now looks alien and strange - exploring the fine line between beauty and ugliness. His work "accentuate the manicured angst and carefully crafted existentialism" of the fashion industry. His subjects seem alien, cold, aloof and asexual.

Liberty 2001

Constance 2001

Glister 2000

I was lucky enough to get to see the first major retrospective of his work at Te Tuhi gallery - and it was an amazing experience. Words cant describe the beauty (both visually and technically) of his paintings. I love that his work comments on the fashion industry, without resorting to ugliness, cheap tricks, or harsh commentary.

Brave New Shorts

Now the weathers getting properly hot (have finally been able to wear sheer things) I am tempted to try the super short shorts (aka basically briefs) trend - also picked up by Style.Com - that has been all over the Spring runways at houses like Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Max Azria and adorning the pins of Natasha Poly...
Is this doable/appropriate or even clothing? How to make it look like I didn't just forget my skirt? Im thinking I buy high waist and boy leg black underwear - thickish fabric? Verging on Bridget Jones (a little bit of nana-ness will hopefully stop them looking slutty) and I think if paired with a buttoned shirt, lots of jewelry and proper make up so its dressed up and a "look" (as much as I'd love to just throw on a loose tee and my ballet flats - that would look as if I just rolled out of bed). Its also a worry that I live in the suburbs (as suburban as you can get - lots of elderly, young families, and 100% bland middle class).. Will be an interesting experiment. I think there will need to be a fair few practice outfits in the comfort (and privacy!) of my bedroom..

Ultimate Hamper Indeed!

Why wasn't this under my Christmas Tree?? Santa?
Anya Hindmarch's "Ultimate Girls Hamper" for Selfridges

New Year, New Jewellery!

So I have the Karen Walker Jetplane necklace...
Its the love of my life and I wear it everyday (best birthday present ever - merci Mama!). Not a day goes by that I don't get at least one compliment. But what piece to purchase next?...

I think I deserve a shiny treat after my workfilled Christmas and New Years.

Karl Hearts H___i...

Chanel's mystery campaign girl for Spring 09 is finally revealed...
Heidi Mount! She was the Resort 09 face and opened and closed the Spring show - obv a fave of Karl. Lucky girl. Gorgeous too.
Ps Its shot at Karl's new house in Vermont!! I wish my staircase matched my outfits as chicly as this.

Shiny And New

This is exactly how New Years Day morning should look, and it does...

I love where I live! I wake up to it every morning - but today is the first time I have done so on the first of January (am usually hungover/dirty/tired/traumatised at some "Hot Spot" destination around the country). As I had to work right through this year (eg I have to open the store at 8:30 today, which meant getting up at 6 - which I do every day regardless) I spent last night with my family. I can honestly say it was one of my nicest, most meaningful New Years yet - my sister, mum and I went out for a delicious thai meal at Thai Spices (had a heartfelt Deep&Meaningfull) and saw The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...

Its a stunning film - amazing themes and messages (time, aging, not wasting life, everyones imperfections etc), shot beautifully (amazing the way they did all the decades) and Brad Pitt is breathtaking in both his performance and his physical perfection. Amazing film!
